Papa Luciani. Chronicle of a death

This volume, signed by Stefania Falasca is a re-edition of Papa Luciani. Chronicle of a death, first published in 2017 following the closing of the Cause of canonisation. The volume begins with a preface by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of His Holiness. Cardinal Parolin traces the profile of John Paul I highlighting how: «Albino Luciani, priest, bishop, patriarch and then Successor of Peter was and remains an indispensable point of reference in the history of the Italian and universal Church». The summarised research to be found in this book - writes the Secretary of State - aimed : «at retracing the Pontiff from Veneto's final hours on the basis of acquired documentation and available oral sources was conducted according to critical historical criteria founded on documented proof and the precise and accurate confrontation with testimonial evidence. A process that has shed light on the epilogue of the life of  'Papa Luciani'. The obscure passages are finally taken out of limbo and clarified. Passages previously amplified and misrepresented both in the 'film noir' type representation of facts and by those who denied the hypothesis of a plot». Stefania Falasca's work was based on archival and documental sources, the only possible way of obtaining an in-depth analytical description of John Paul I in scientific terms. Finally to be highlighted is: «the value of the introductory pages of the book. In fact before beginning the story of John Paul I's final hours this introduction offers a synthetic but powerful description of his figure. And draws up some useful background information for those who while wishing to be acquainted with the hitherto unknown details regarding the death of  'Papa Luciani' know little about his life and magisterium».
