Albino Luciani's private Archive

The private archive of Albino Luciani is composed by a group of papers included the manuscript, the notebooks, the diaries, the correspondence, and the printed material covering the period from 1929 to 28th September 1978. The corpus of papers are composed of 64 folders.

The archive, now allocated in the headquarter in Via della Conciliazione, since in December 2020, has been brought back to the Holy See from the Historical Archive of the Patriarchate of Venice, where it had been moved in October 1978 after the death of John Paul I.
The documents constitute a Heritage of the Foundation and it is of  fundamental importance for the project Opera omnia.

On 1st March 2020, under the direction of  Prefect of the Vatican Apostolic Archives, his Excellency Bishop Sergio Pagano, began the inventory work and, simultaneously, with the partnership of the Apostolic Vatican Library, the digitization work of the Fund, starting with the edition of 66 handwritten diaries (from 1960 to 1978), including the diary and the notebook during the period of His Pontificate.
A scanned copy , also, will be stored in the Historical Archive of the Patriarchate of Venice.
