THE THIRD YEAR

In its third year of activity, the John Paul I Vatican Foundation has taken fundamental steps in pursuit of its goals of studying, protecting and disseminating the theological and cultural legacy of Albino Luciani. The anniversary was celebrated in the presence of the President, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, on February 17, 2023 at the Apostolic Palace. The President and the Board of Directors celebrated three years since the Foundation's inception after thanking Master Zhang Yan, author of the portrait of John Paul I displayed on St. Peter's Basilica on the occasion of the Beatification, who made a gift of the painting to the Foundation.

Through the promotion of conferences, the establishment of scholarships and the various publications, the basic foundations have been laid to promote internationally the research, studies, in-depth study and dissemination of the work and thought of John Paul I.

 

  • In collaboration with the Department of Dogmatic Theology of the Pontifical Gregorian University, the Foundation promoted the Study Day on his Magisterium entitled: "The Six 'We Want'. The Magisterium of John Paul I in the Light of Archival Papers." On the occasion of the conference, the volume edited by the Foundation's Scientific Committee and published by LEV, Il Magistero. Texts and Documents of the Pontificate, the first critical edition of the texts and speeches delivered by John Paul I during the 34 days of his pontificate.
 
  • Several initiatives to present the volume The Magisterium were held during the year in Cortina D'Ampezzo, the Diocese of Trent and the University of Trent.
 
  • The Foundation contributed to the reorganization and care of the Pieve di Canale d'Agordo Library, supporting the cataloging work of Dr. Elena Turro.
 
  • On the occasion of the Beatification of John Paul I, which took place on September 4, 2022 in St. Peter's Square, the Foundation made a gift of the relic, an autograph writing of spiritual order on the three theological virtues, which was handed over to the Supreme Pontiff during the celebration. In preparation for the beatification ceremony, the Foundation also made a gift to all Italian bishops of the volume The Magisterium. Documents and Texts of the Pontificate, edited by its Scientific Committee.
 
  • The Foundation received as a gift from Master Zhang Yan the portrait of John Paul I exhibited on the occasion of the Beatification.
 
  • The Foundation's new headquarters, at Via della Conciliazione 5, was blessed by Foundation President Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
